After several follow-ups from my fictitious journalist email that I was continuously sending to support@orbeonprotocol.com, I finally got an email from a marketing agency claiming to be a third-party marketing partner for Orbeon Protocol.
The email was sent from advertising@mavalowlabs.com. Mavalow Labs claims to be a Web3 marketing agency.
When I inspected the website, the "Schedule a Meeting" button was disconnected from a Calendly account. Additionally, their Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions footer links did not lead to active pages. The links were hashed (#). There is no way that such pages are not included by a legitimate marketing agency. Unless this was a quick job to launch a fake business website online.
Further inspection of the website's domain showed that the domain was registered 23 days after orbeonprotocol.com was registered.
After I replied to their email, they probably discovered I was not a genuine media publishing company, and they did not reply after five follow-ups. I also sent them an email and several follow-ups from a different contact pretending to be a blockchain startup looking for a Web3 marketing agency. I never got a single reply.
A Web3 marketing agency.
Never replies to multiple business inquiries.
Domain registered after Orbeon's domain.
Only five Twitter posts.
The first post was in November, a month after the scam started.
The last post was in January, promoting Orbeon Protocol only.
No post after that.
This is a 100% fake marketing agency. And it gets better. Looking at the footer, I noticed that they actually included their operating address.
30 Churchill Place London, England E14 5EU.
Isn't this the same address the scammers operate from at WeWork Canary Wharf? Indeed it is!
We can confirm with certainty that the scammers are operating from the WeWork office in Canary Wharf and using the fake marketing agency Mavalow Labs as a front to conceal their true involvement in Orbeon Protocol.
Visiting the official LinkedIn page of Mavalow Labs leads us to the real identities of the scammers who are the same admins in the Telegram group. Going through the profiles and scrolling back in time on their activity shows that all profiles go back years, confirming that these are real profiles.
Looking at their Twitter profile (), we can see that their first post was on the 22nd of November 2022, and their last post was on the 16th of January 2023, promoting only, and none other than Orbeon Protocol from a total of five posts.
